This design distorts the senses as leaves morph into elegant wings in fans of exotic colour against a blackened curtain for dramatic effect. The violet blue crown of the wood nymph appears at one glance to be a bud, and suddenly it dawns on the observer that these brilliant green fans are not exotic leaves of vibrant, lime-green but the wings of a bird. Facing the violet-capped wood nymph is Anna’s Hummingbird, named after Anna Massena, the Duchess of Rivoli. An iridescent crimson-red crown and throat, and a dark grey, slightly forked tail are camouflaged by the designer, Vicky Lovatt, among stylised, elongated leaves. This limited edition of 150 pieces, and is expected to move faster than hummingbirds’ wings.
